Friends of the Animal Shelter Spay and Neuter Programs

Spay It Forward - St Joe

The  Spay It Forward (St. Joe) program is an ongoing, year round program that offers financial assistance for the spay and neuter of pets for low-income pet owners residing in the St. Joseph city limits. This is part of Friends of the Shelter’s spay and neuter initiative to support our community and shelter by combating pet overpopulation.  Applicants can apply online or in person at the Animal Shelter and must provide income verification.  Once approved, applicants will receive an approval notification that includes instructions for making the required copayment and scheduling the appointment.  A minimum copayment of $20 is required, and vaccinations must be up to date in order to avoid a $20 vaccination charge at the time of the surgery (proof of vaccination required). Spay Day USA

Spay Day is an annual event that only occurs in February that aims to provide low-income pet owners with access to affordable spaying and neutering services for their pets. It’s a part of World Spay Day, a global initiative that promotes spaying and neutering to combat pet overpopulation.  Applicants can apply online or in person at the shelter between January and February every year and must provide proof of income.  Once approved, applicants will receive an approval notification that will detail next steps and scheduling of appointments.  No copayment is required as part of this program, and vaccinations are performed at no cost to the owner if the animal is not current on vaccinations at the time of the surgery.
